If you're the kind of bad mother that I am, you probably don't do things like cut out snowflake patterns with your kids. It's not that I wouldn't, in an ideal world, like to do this, it's just that in this world cutting out snowflake patterns bores me, and also, they all come out looking the same, which is to say, like doilies, and I'm not really into doilies.
Having seen this, however, I might be prepared to change my mind:
That's a chart of snowflake forms. Real ones, not the kind crafted by preschoolers. My favorite is the Fernlike Stellar Dendrite, just because it sounds like something that scientists will someday discover is fatal to our alien overlords. And I'm guessing that Katie will be partial to the Capped Bullets.
(I'm not touching the Sheaths.) (Pun totally intended.)
These patterns would, of course, be very difficult for little hands to duplicate by snipping at paper with safety scissors, but you could just print these pages off and cut them out yourself. Or, skip that step and just hand over the printed sheets to your kid and say, look, kid, REAL snowflakes. NOT AT ALL LIKE DOILIES.
Throw in some copies of the periodic table and some Crayolas and your work is done.

Love it!
SHEATHS? Really sheaths…eww!
I think you should get Styrofoam and sculpt them….THAT would be cool. Because, you have nothing else to do this holiday season, right?!?
The Graupel is very boring. It looks more like hail. I’d like to propose that the Graupel be removed from this chart immediately. Don’t make me write a letter. I’ll do it. You know I will.
The Graupel sounds like something that comes from Mordor and eats Hobbits. For that reason I think it should stay.
