Gisele Bundchen, Mommy: Awesome, Or Not Awesome, Or Both?

I kind of don’t know what to do with Gisele Bundchen. I mean, she’s out there now, having had a baby, being all supermodel perfect and flat-stomachey and that kind of stuff usually either irritates or enrages me, depending upon how well my Spanx are containing my muffin top, but then again, you know, she just seems so sweet and earthy and Brazilian. Also, the photos of her with her baby in Vogue, where’s she looking at him with an expression of absolute bliss, make her kind of impossible to get mad at, you know?

But….

There’s this video, where Vogue editor Joan Juliet Buck talks about interviewing Gisele Bundchen while she nursed baby Benjamin and says that she almost didn’t realize at first that it was Gisele Bundchen that she’d approached because Gisele Bundchen nursing her baby just did not seem like Gisele Bundchen, Amazonian Supermodel, which is hard not to think of as awesome, BUT then there’s this business about how Gisele said that some women turn themselves into “garbage disposals” during pregnancy and that’s why they gain weight, which got me maybe a little enraged, because I gained, like, 60 pounds and I think that Milla Jovovich gained even more, so.

What do you think? Worth getting mad about? Or do we accept that being Gisele Bundchen means having a limited view of what constitutes a ‘sacred’, healthy pregnancy and just be glad that she’s being public about nursing and leave it at that?

Now I may be wrong so please correct me if I am but didn’t pre-parent Gisele also make some pretty stupid remarks about how Tom Brady’s son with Bridget Moynahan was 100% her child? Because if I had been Bridget in that case? I would have screamed obscenities at her.

Piling more stupidity on top of that kind of comment just screams ‘not-so-bright / insert foot into mouth often’ about Gisele IMO. These remarks make me seethe because stupidity with the ear of the world is a dangerous combination. Call me a ‘garbage disposal’ (because I guess I fit her description with a 70+lb weight gain) and YES I will be offended. Funny how that works.

This is her first baby, right?
We all say completely dumb-ass things when we’re new at this Mommy-thing, before we realize that our total and complete devotion to our new miracle isn’t unique and doesn’t excuse us from being complete douches.
I’d give her a pass, assuming that she doesn’t just have a fleet of nannies raising her wee boy and only show up for bedtime kisses occassionally, she’ll catch on.
(Of course this also assumes that she isn’t terminally stupid, and that we care what a model’s opinion is.)

She also said giving birth didn’t hurt a bit. So, I’m thinking we can take what she said about garbage disposals with a grain of salt.
