Wow, Mythbusters. Like I needed someone to prove to me that women can tolerate pain more than men. I mean, when’s the last time a man had his pelvis and privates tolerate the passage of an eight pound bowling ball? Been there, done that, and I’d do it again if duty called. Oh yes, I’m sure there are a whole lot of men who would be willing to do the same but nature made us this way, boys, and nature seems to know why.
It’s because we’re tougher than the boyz and – thanks to Mythbusters – the proof is in the icing. Literally. When the Mythbuster test subjects submerged their arm into freezing ice water — which simulates an intensive onset of frostbite and hypothermia in a safe setting — women were able to keep the arm submerged significantly longer than men. It’s no surprise that ladies were declared to possess a reasonably higher tolerance for pain.
The arm in ice is a common pain tolerance test that I participated in many times as a Psych major. Except the last time I did this test I had to solve math problems out loud while my arm was strapped to the board submerged in water and I couldn’t hear the clock. These test monkeys should feel very lucky. For the record: if I was able to pick what kind of pain to withstand during childbirth, I’d do this ice water submersion a hundred times over pushing a baby out my lady parts because back labor is nowhere nearly as refreshing as hypothermia.

bowling balls that are coated with an acrylic clearcoat are the nice ones :
