What does this post title even mean? It means that camping as we know it might be a distant memory if Ontario Parks or TLC have anything to do with it. Remember when camping was a fun, inexpensive, relaxing family activity that was relatively stress-free save for bears and mosquitoes? Now there are many things to fear in the woods this year, some which may ruin camping forever.
First off there was the announcement this week from Ontario Parks that they are experimenting with wireless internet access inside the parks. Wifi is currently available at Pinery Provincial Park on Lake Huron and if campers like it, it may spread to other camp grounds. The wifi isn’t really available at camping sites but signals can be found near the park store. So basically that means if mom and dad take junior to ‘get away from it all’ in the woods, mom and dad might be tempted to hike out to the store more often in order to check their iPhones.
My family camps to really get away from it all but if the siren song of a wifi signal was even a remote possibility, this mom right here might be tempted to keep up with the outside world and frankly that is just wrong. You can’t expect me to be that strong to resist the lure of wifi (just telling the truth folks.) Not only do I think this idea defeats the purpose of camping, I think it might spell out higher camping fees which is also really, really wrong. Keep camping innocent! Down with wifi in provinicial parks!
Now how does Sarah Palin and Kate Gosselin plus offspring fit into this post? Brace yourself because those two ladies of the tabloids (plus eight innocents) are going camping together. Yes it’s apparently true that the Gosselin gang is headed to Alaska to film some camping footage for an upcoming episode of Kate plus Eight. A quote from the article:
“Sarah will even teach Kate how to avoid bears!”
Please don’t do that Sarah, I’d greatly appreciate it if Kate had an encounter with a bear thus bringing her reality show and fame to an end. Harsh I know but I’m really done with Ms. Gosselin. Keep the kids safe though Sarah because they are truly innocent in all this mayhem (and I’m not just talking about this camping debacle.)
So there you have it folks, camping has reached a turning point and I say let’s try to reclaim it’s innocence before Facebook adds an Connect With Other Campers app to the mix.
And what say you fellow campers? Wifi at camp grounds – yay or nay? Bad Moms want to know.

Can we vote for bears to eat Kate and Sarah?
